Le Temps des médias n°11, hiver 2008/2009, p. 140-148.Portugal holds a special place within the vast international market for Brazilian telenovelas, which have been shown to influence the vocabulary of their Portuguese audience, and even tastes and values for the youngest. The success of these programs since the end of the 1970’s, akin for some critics to a form of cultural colonization, led to the production, starting in the 1990’s, of Portuguese telenovelas, now serious competitors to their Latin-American models.
