This article focuses on the representation of the couple through the magazine Amina, whose target audience is black women. Published in France, Amina is distributed in French speaking Africa, the West Indies and Europe. Our analysis is based on the study of every Amina publication from 2007 to 2009 and includes the views of the magazine’s publishers. If Amina values professional achievement, we will demonstrate that the norms permeating its content related to the private sphere reflect a patriarchal ideology.
