The renewal of antifeminism in the manosphere : idealization of tradition and masculinist individualism

The recent consolidation of the online ‘manosphere’ allows defenders of the ‘male cause’ to converge and defend a recalibration of masculinist ideologies according to feminist progress. Online participants criticize the 1960s feminist emancipation movements and condemn the neoliberal turn of the 1980s, while idealizing a certain vision of the French post-war period. Starting with a cartography of the manosphere, this article explores the strategic hybridization of a defense of traditional male domination and an inscription within contemporary individualism, along with an astute reclaiming of feminist tools and techniques for conscientization.
