Point de vue sur les images du monde. Voyage, photographie, médias de 1839 à nos jours

Le Temps des médias n°8, printemps 2007, p.142-158

Photography has played a key role in the building of representations of travel. The analogical picture had inherited an imagination of the other and of foreign countries which it profoundly reworked by using all the media that the technological and economical evolution since the middle of the 19th century put at its disposal : the album, the newspaper, the postcard, the illustrated magazine, the travel magazine. Both a pledge for change of scenery and a tool for making the world a commonplace, the documentary picture has created a shared universe of references that duplicates the real world and, in a way, substitutes for it.
