A cemetery profaned - Carpentras, 10-15 May, 1990: the multi-layered media discourse

Le Temps des médias n°6, printemps 2006, p.175-187

In May 1990, tombs were desecrated, and a disinterred body was violated. As soon as the affair became public, the French media proposed a political interpretation of the event ; this anti-Semitic act was presented as a violation of the very principles of the republic and the reflection of the discourse of the National Front party. In a country haunted by the memory of Vichy and the Holocaust, the media and politicians depicted this profanation as tantamount to the continuation of the Nazi genocide. DrapeauFrancais
