This article explores the history of the teaching of advertising in France between 1900 and 1975. It contextualises the diversity of current ad. teaching programmes, the history of the professionalisation of advertising, and of the relations between ad. education and business. The paper focuses on two periods : the beginnings, 1900-1940, and the reform years, 1945-1975. It raises several questions: who were the major actors involved in the teaching of advertising skills?
