René Dumont’s notoriety owes a great deal to television, and he knew how to use it skilfully to promote his ideas and his books. If he appeared on television - convened as an “expert” – as early as the 1960s, it was only with his political campaign in 1974 that he rose to fame and creates his public image. From then on, he became the embodiment of political ecology, the “father of ecologists”. This article analyses the decisive part played by television in the building of this image.
