Panorama of the gourmand collections in French heritage libraries
Le Temps des médias n° 24, Printemps-Été 2015, p. 281-305.Libraries invent original and powerful tools for transmitting our gastronomic heritage. Whether cultural sites dedicated entirely or partially to culinary heritage, gourmand libraries offer an exceptional overview through nine centuries of history, where mingle sharing of words and dishes. Among these, seven heritage libraries offer an unique journey through their collections: la Bibliothèque nationale de France (Tolbiac and Arsenal sites), la bibliothèque de l’Institut National de l’Audiovisuel, la bibliothèque historique de la Ville de Paris, Forney, la bibliothèque des Arts décoratifs, et la bibliothèque municipale classée de Dijon. These visits offer to discover the richness and specificity of each collection, with new research opportunities and access to handwritten, printed and audiovisual resources. The researcher can enjoy menus and food labels from France and elsewhere through the centuries.
