Le Temps des médias n°14, Printemps 2010, p. 142-157.Written by Jean Van Hamme in the early 1990s, the saga of the « masters of barley » depicted in Les Maîtres de l’orge takes the successive shapes of a novel, a series of graphic novels, and TV movies. As a part of the focus on the circulation of fiction through different media, this paper examines how the adaptation of a narrative tends to “bend†fiction when targeting the very broad audience of television. With the history of business ventures and family relations as its central themes, this article studies the creation of social conformism in the mass products of the cultural industry.
