Le Temps des médias n°1, automne 2003, p.42-53.The July 16, 1949 legislation on publications for youngsters introduced into French law restrictive provisions to be enforced by a newly created board of surveillance and control. The board reviewed all publications for youngsters but also for adults. It proceeded to restrain their freedom of speech by holding sway over them by means of self-censorship and censorship especially from 1950 to 1974
