Le Temps des médias n°14, Printemps 2010, p. 62-72.Gaston Leroux’s work stands as the culmination of a certain relationship between fiction an journalism at the end of the 19th century. A reporter before all, Leroux reuses in his novels forms proper to journalism. The crime narrative, a theme for news stories, thus becomes a device of the novel, while references to current affairs and recent headlines act as anchors into a realistic setting. Thus, the world of journalism comes to the stage of the novel – as a backdrop and as a plot device.
