Digital Social Networks of the Past

CBBS, The Well, Fidonet, Geocities, DDS, Calvacom, the Minitel are some of the « virtual communities » and spaces, where, from the 1970s to the 1990s, the early adopters of computer-mediated communications built digital social networks, which did not yet bear this name. They challenge our definition of social networks, invite us to consider the continuities and disruptions between these past experiences and those of today, but also the traces left by these communities, to better consider the future of our born-digital heritage.
