Appel à communication, XXVI Conference of the International Association for Media and History “Media and History Revisited” Special Area : Media and Nostalgia Indiana University (Bloomington, IN, USA), 17-20 June 2015

Papers are invited for the special area ‘Media and Nostalgia’ of the XXVI IAMHIST (International Association of Media and History) Conference, to be held at Indiana University (Bloomington, IN, USA) on the theme of “Media and History Revisited.”

For this special section of the conference, we welcome interdisciplinary contributions that discuss the role of nostalgia and its various relations to media.

The topics might include :

• The uses of nostalgia within media and artistic productions (film, television, radio, the printing press, dance, theatre, websites, archives, etc.), uses that can be creative, progressive, regressive and/or commodified • Nostalgia related to adaptation, remakes, revivals and reruns • Nostalgia in and of scholarly discourses : the comeback of authors, schools of thought, theories ; with a focus on film and television studies, media theory, media studies and media history • Nostalgia, identities and collective memories • Analogue nostalgia, retro- and vintage waves and moods • The uses of nostalgia in institutional/economic environments and discourses (management, networks, ecology, sustainability, public diplomacy, etc.) Invited speakers for the IAMHIST conference include Robert Rosenstone (California Institute of Technology) and Gary Edgerton (Butler University). We also hope to have as a special guest Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Marcel Ophuls. The general call for papers for the conference, can be foud here.

We welcome proposals either for individual papers or full panels of 3-4 papers. We anticipate sessions of 90 minutes, including questions/discussion. Abstract of no more than 300 words and a cover sheet with a brief biographical note, (including your institutional affiliation (where relevant) and your contact details) should be sent to Professor Brett Bowles (bowlesb@indiana.edu) and to the area chair (Katharina.Niemeyer@u-paris2.fr) before 1 March 2015.

It is expected that the conference fee will be approximately $150. Day rates and reduced rates for postgraduate students will be available. All participants are expected to be IAMHIST members.
