Thanks to a new international cultural policy inaugurated by the Communist Party of the USSR in the late Fifties, and in the frame of the battle for «hearts and minds » during the Cold War, the Soviet Union gave assistance for the development of African Cinemas. This paper aims, through Soviet journal and Soviet archive documents, to examine the unknown history of this assistance in terms of technical help, training, and screening.
