On Fifth November 1605, the « Gunpowder Plot » hatched by a few members of the Catholic Gentry, could have destroyed, in the blow of a tremendous explosion, both the Parliament and the Royal Family. Its failure engendered a great and immediate mediatisation, through prints and engravings, and set up a dynamic memory called to become a major reference point in the english political protestant culture : the annual commemorations tightened communities on the basis of a federative antipapism, but they also crystallized political tensions of the moment. The re-actualization of memory was combined with reinvestments whose significances were multiple.
